This case study outlines a technical solution developed to meet a client's specific requirements for mushroom cultivation racks. The project focused on designing and fabricating two distinct sizes of sturdy, independent racking systems with a significant load capacity per layer.
The Challenge
The client required a racking system for mushroom cultivation with two different dimensions and specifications. Key requirements included:
· Two different rack sizes ("Mogu Rack 1" and "Mogu Rack 2").
· Specific dimensions for each rack type.
· A requirement for 7 layers per rack.
· A single-layer load capacity of 200 lbs (approximately 100 kg).
· Independent rack units with no connecting aisle bars.
Our Technical Solution
We developed a tailored technical solution providing two types of mushroom racks, designed for durability and efficient use of space.
Mogu Rack 1
This rack is designed with a length of 5.5 meters, a height of 2.4 meters, and a width of 0.3 meters. It features 7 layers, with each layer supported by 3 longitudinal bars. Each unit includes 4 sets of uprights along the length, with each set comprising 2 uprights and 7 horizontal bars. The total number of longitudinal bars per rack is 21 (7 layers * 3 bars/layer).
· Dimensions: 5.5m (Length) x 2.4m (Height) x 0.3m (Width)
· Layers: 7
· Longitudinal Bars per Layer: 3
· Total Longitudinal Bars: 21
· Upright Sets: 4
· Single Layer Capacity: 200 lbs (approx. 100 kg)
· Materials: Uprights use carbon steel plastic-coated square tubes (30x50x1.3 mm). Longitudinal, horizontal, and diagonal bars use carbon steel plastic-coated round tubes (25x1.0 mm).
Mogu Rack 2
The second rack type is larger, with a length of 3.0 meters, a height of 2.4 meters, and a width of 0.6 meters. It also has 7 layers, but with 6 longitudinal bars per layer for increased support over the wider span. Each unit includes 3 sets of uprights along the length, with each set comprising 2 uprights and 7 horizontal bars. The total number of longitudinal bars per rack is 42 (7 layers * 6 bars/layer).
· Dimensions: 3.0m (Length) x 2.4m (Height) x 0.6m (Width)
· Layers: 7
· Longitudinal Bars per Layer: 6
· Total Longitudinal Bars: 42
· Upright Sets: 3
· Single Layer Capacity: 200 lbs (approx. 100 kg)
· Materials: Uprights use carbon steel plastic-coated square tubes (30x50x1.3 mm). Longitudinal, horizontal, and diagonal bars use carbon steel plastic-coated round tubes (25x1.0 mm).
Both rack types were designed to be independent units, fulfilling the client's requirement for no connecting aisle bars. The material choices ensure durability and suitability for the intended environment.
Packaging and Logistics
For delivery, the main pipe components are categorized and bundled. These bundles are then secured with stretch film and strapping before being transported by a professional logistics and freight company. This method ensures the safe and organized delivery of the racking components.
